H.R. No. 261 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Members of Catholic Charities are visiting the State Capitol, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor the organization for its dedicated service to countless individuals in need; and WHEREAS, Catholic Charities reaches out to persons of all races, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds, sharing with them the healing power of faith and offering vital assistance to help them become self-sufficient; and WHEREAS, With more than 20 locations in Texas, Catholic Charities provides an array of programs and services, including adoption, basic personal-living needs, counseling, disaster response, education and enrichment, housing, food bank, health, refugee, immigration, and social support, and last year its members aided more than 400,000 individuals; and WHEREAS, In keeping with the Catholic Church's mission to respect the dignity of all, the organization operates a criminal justice ministry program in jails and prisons throughout the state; criminal justice ministers serve as chaplains and assist in the rehabilitation of convicted inmates; they also help those who have completed their prison terms with their reintegration into society; moreover, Catholic Charities expands its work by advocating for social justice and empowering communities through action and education; and WHEREAS, Catholic Charities has remained steadfast in its commitment to providing individuals with the support and direction they need to secure a bright future for themselves, and the compassionate service rendered by this noteworthy group is an inspiration to citizens across the Lone Star State and beyond; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby welcome the members of the Catholic Charities delegation as they gather in Austin and extend to all those associated with the organization best wishes for continued success with their many good works; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Catholic Charities as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
