 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Sandra Massie Hines of Houston has distinguished
 herself as a dedicated professional, civic leader, and volunteer;
 and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Hines is the executive director of Junior
 Achievers, a nonprofit organization that works to promote jobs and
 healthy, drug-free living among youth; moreover, she is the
 honorary mayor of the Sunnyside community in Houston, where her
 activism in behalf of people with substance abuse problems is well
 known; and
 WHEREAS, Devoted to numerous social justice causes, Ms. Hines
 has championed the poor, the elderly, the homeless, and other
 disenfranchised individuals and has worked with numerous city
 officials in an effort to advance the issues dearest to her; through
 the years, she has organized health and job fairs, town hall
 meetings, and a range of social service programs; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Hines has been recognized for her outstanding
 civic engagement by President George H. W. Bush, as well as by
 Governor Rick Perry, and in 1992, she was nominated for the Daily
 Point of Light Award; in addition, she was one of only 20 African
 American women in Houston selected to represent the city in a
 meeting with 100 women from various African countries; and
 WHEREAS, With a genuine concern for her fellow citizens,
 Sandra Massie Hines has given freely of her time and talents for the
 benefit of others, and she is an inspiration to all those who are
 privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Sandra Massie Hines on her many
 significant contributions to the betterment of her community and
 extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
 happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Hines as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
