H.R. No. 2614 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Vergie Miller of Houston has distinguished herself through her service to the community, and her leadership and generosity of spirit have earned her the heartfelt admiration of all who know her; and WHEREAS, Born in Crockett, Ms. Miller moved to Houston in 1952; she worked for Talbert Oil for many years, and after her retirement, she established a home health care business; and WHEREAS, This industrious Texan has served as treasurer of the Brookhaven Civic Club for more than two decades, and she has given selflessly of her time and talents to improve her neighborhood and to help countless people in her community; an Eastern Star Associate Matron since 1983, Ms. Miller is also a valued member of Pisidia Missionary Baptist Church, where she volunteers with the Christian Outreach Ministries; and WHEREAS, She and her husband, the late James E. Miller, were blessed with four children, and Ms. Miller has since known the joy of welcoming into her family 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Texas communities are made richer by the efforts of those individuals who step forward to participate in community life and help fellow citizens in need, and Vergie Miller has set an outstanding example of civic engagement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Vergie Miller for her contributions to the community and extend to her best wishes for continued success in her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Miller as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
