5	5	WHEREAS, The Honorable Roberto R. Alonzo and his wife,
6	6	Sylvana Avila Alonzo, of Dallas are celebrating their 25th wedding
7	7	anniversary on May 26, 2009, and this joyous event provides a
8	8	fitting opportunity to reflect on their memorable journey together
9	9	as husband and wife; and
10	10	WHEREAS, On that special day in 1984, Roberto Alonzo and
11	11	Sylvana Avila were joined in matrimony at a ceremony held at Sacred
12	12	Heart Catholic Church; both husband and wife grew up in Crystal
13	13	City, where they learned the importance of family from their
14	14	parents, Emeterio M. Alonzo, Jr., and Maria del Rosario R. Alonzo
15	15	and Jose Maria Avila and Lucila Flores Avila; and
16	16	WHEREAS, That same momentous year that he began his married
17	17	life, Representative Alonzo graduated from the Thurgood Marshall
18	18	School of Law at Texas Southern University, having previously
19	19	earned his undergraduate degree at The University of Texas at
20	20	Austin; after spending a year as an assistant attorney general, he
21	21	went into private practice and is now the managing partner of
22	22	Roberto R. Alonzo, P.C., in Dallas; his enduring interest in
23	23	serving his community and state inspired him to first run for office
24	24	in 1992, and he has ably served his constituents as a member of the
25	25	Texas House of Representatives for six legislative sessions; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Sylvana Avila Alonzo shares her husband's interest
27	27	in public service; she is the president of the Oak Cliff Coalition
28	28	for the Arts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting
29	29	artistic endeavors and education in Dallas; the coalition presents
30	30	the annual Oak Cliff Cinco de Mayo Big Parade and Street Fest, and
31	31	she has served as the chief coordinator for the event for the past
32	32	13 years; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Through the decades, Roberto and Sylvana have been
34	34	blessed with three treasured children: Roberto Alonzo, Jr., who was
35	35	born in 1985, Maria Xiomara Alonzo, born in 1987, and Jose Maria
36	36	Emeterio Alonzo, who joined the family in 1992; and
37	37	WHEREAS, The 25 years of marriage that Roberto and Sylvana
38	38	Alonzo have shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love
39	39	and commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration to all
40	40	who know them; now, therefore, be it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
42	42	Legislature hereby congratulate Roberto R. Alonzo and Sylvana Avila
43	43	Alonzo on their silver wedding anniversary and extend to them
44	44	sincere best wishes for continued happiness.
