H.R. No. 2629 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Honorable Roberto R. Alonzo and his wife, Sylvana Avila Alonzo, of Dallas are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on May 26, 2009, and this joyous event provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on their memorable journey together as husband and wife; and WHEREAS, On that special day in 1984, Roberto Alonzo and Sylvana Avila were joined in matrimony at a ceremony held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; both husband and wife grew up in Crystal City, where they learned the importance of family from their parents, Emeterio M. Alonzo, Jr., and Maria del Rosario R. Alonzo and Jose Maria Avila and Lucila Flores Avila; and WHEREAS, That same momentous year that he began his married life, Representative Alonzo graduated from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, having previously earned his undergraduate degree at The University of Texas at Austin; after spending a year as an assistant attorney general, he went into private practice and is now the managing partner of Roberto R. Alonzo, P.C., in Dallas; his enduring interest in serving his community and state inspired him to first run for office in 1992, and he has ably served his constituents as a member of the Texas House of Representatives for six legislative sessions; and WHEREAS, Sylvana Avila Alonzo shares her husband's interest in public service; she is the president of the Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting artistic endeavors and education in Dallas; the coalition presents the annual Oak Cliff Cinco de Mayo Big Parade and Street Fest, and she has served as the chief coordinator for the event for the past 13 years; and WHEREAS, Through the decades, Roberto and Sylvana have been blessed with three treasured children: Roberto Alonzo, Jr., who was born in 1985, Maria Xiomara Alonzo, born in 1987, and Jose Maria Emeterio Alonzo, who joined the family in 1992; and WHEREAS, The 25 years of marriage that Roberto and Sylvana Alonzo have shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love and commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Roberto R. Alonzo and Sylvana Avila Alonzo on their silver wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness.
