5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Specialist |

6 | 6 | | Braden Joseph Long of Sherman suffered an immeasurable loss with |

7 | 7 | | the death of this valiant young man in Iraq on August 4, 2007, at the |

8 | 8 | | age of 19; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, out of |
---|
11 | 11 | | Fort Riley, Kansas, Specialist Long was killed while bravely |
---|
12 | 12 | | serving his country during combat operations in Baghdad; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Specialist Long joined the Army in 2004 and received |
---|
14 | 14 | | his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky; he was deployed to Iraq |
---|
15 | 15 | | in February 2007 as a gunner; his decorations and commendations |
---|
16 | 16 | | included the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation |
---|
17 | 17 | | Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Iraq |
---|
18 | 18 | | Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Braden Long was born |
---|
20 | 20 | | on August 7, 1987, in Grand Prairie, and graduated from Sherman High |
---|
21 | 21 | | School in 2005; a likeable young man with an ever-present smile and |
---|
22 | 22 | | a fondness for cars, he was also known for his devotion to his wife, |
---|
23 | 23 | | Teresa, and for his unwavering dedication to duty and honor; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
---|
25 | 25 | | women whose love of country leads them to military service, and the |
---|
26 | 26 | | passage of time can never diminish the profound debt that Americans |
---|
27 | 27 | | owe to Braden Long for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he |
---|
28 | 28 | | rendered; now, therefore, be it |

29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist |

31 | 31 | | Braden Joseph Long and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his |

32 | 32 | | family: to his wife, Teresa; to his parents, Melanie Thrasher and |
