55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Specialist
66 Braden Joseph Long of Sherman suffered an immeasurable loss with
77 the death of this valiant young man in Iraq on August 4, 2007, at the
88 age of 19; and
99 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment,
1010 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, out of
1111 Fort Riley, Kansas, Specialist Long was killed while bravely
1212 serving his country during combat operations in Baghdad; and
1313 WHEREAS, Specialist Long joined the Army in 2004 and received
1414 his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky; he was deployed to Iraq
1515 in February 2007 as a gunner; his decorations and commendations
1616 included the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation
1717 Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Iraq
1818 Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal; and
1919 WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Braden Long was born
2020 on August 7, 1987, in Grand Prairie, and graduated from Sherman High
2121 School in 2005; a likeable young man with an ever-present smile and
2222 a fondness for cars, he was also known for his devotion to his wife,
2323 Teresa, and for his unwavering dedication to duty and honor; and
2424 WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
2525 women whose love of country leads them to military service, and the
2626 passage of time can never diminish the profound debt that Americans
2727 owe to Braden Long for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he
2828 rendered; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3030 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist
3131 Braden Joseph Long and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his
3232 family: to his wife, Teresa; to his parents, Melanie Thrasher and
3333 William "Bill" Long III; to his brother, William Long IV; to his
3434 sister, Michaela Thrasher; to his grandparents, William Long, Jr.,
3535 William Euans, Susan Long, and Shirley Dickinson; to his
3636 great-grandfather, William G. Long, Sr.; and to his other relatives
3737 and many friends; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4040 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Braden
4141 Long.
