 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Specialist
 Braden Joseph Long of Sherman suffered an immeasurable loss with
 the death of this valiant young man in Iraq on August 4, 2007, at the
 age of 19; and
 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment,
 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, out of
 Fort Riley, Kansas, Specialist Long was killed while bravely
 serving his country during combat operations in Baghdad; and
 WHEREAS, Specialist Long joined the Army in 2004 and received
 his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky; he was deployed to Iraq
 in February 2007 as a gunner; his decorations and commendations
 included the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation
 Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Iraq
 Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal; and
 WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Braden Long was born
 on August 7, 1987, in Grand Prairie, and graduated from Sherman High
 School in 2005; a likeable young man with an ever-present smile and
 a fondness for cars, he was also known for his devotion to his wife,
 Teresa, and for his unwavering dedication to duty and honor; and
 WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
 women whose love of country leads them to military service, and the
 passage of time can never diminish the profound debt that Americans
 owe to Braden Long for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he
 rendered; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist
 Braden Joseph Long and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his
 family: to his wife, Teresa; to his parents, Melanie Thrasher and
 William "Bill" Long III; to his brother, William Long IV; to his
 sister, Michaela Thrasher; to his grandparents, William Long, Jr.,
 William Euans, Susan Long, and Shirley Dickinson; to his
 great-grandfather, William G. Long, Sr.; and to his other relatives
 and many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Braden
 Long.
