5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot fully express the sorrow felt at the |

6 | 6 | | loss of U.S. Army Sergeant Mark A. Stone of Buchanan Dam, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | on April 28, 2008, at the age of 22; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Stone was a motor transport operator |
---|
9 | 9 | | assigned to F Company, 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade |
---|
10 | 10 | | Combat Team, based at Fort Polk, Louisiana; he was mortally injured |
---|
11 | 11 | | while bravely serving his country in Baghdad, Iraq; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The son of Donald Stone and the late Bonnie Stone, |
---|
13 | 13 | | Mark Stone graduated from Kingsland Christian Academy; following in |
---|
14 | 14 | | his father's footsteps, he enlisted in the army and completed a |
---|
15 | 15 | | yearlong tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2006; he was deployed to |
---|
16 | 16 | | Iraq in November of the following year, and the heroism he |
---|
17 | 17 | | demonstrated in battle earned him numerous decorations, including |
---|
18 | 18 | | the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Stone was a quiet, thoughtful, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | determined young man who performed his military duties with |
---|
21 | 21 | | enthusiasm, exceeding standards and positively influencing his |
---|
22 | 22 | | fellow soldiers; he was greatly admired for his strength of |
---|
23 | 23 | | character and integrity, as well as for his kind, helpful nature; |
---|
24 | 24 | | and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, When he was on leave, Sergeant Stone attended all |
---|
26 | 26 | | three weekly services at Calvary Hill Church in Kingsland, where he |
---|
27 | 27 | | was a valued member; he helped take care of the children on church |
---|
28 | 28 | | field trips and expressed a desire to one day serve as a military |
---|
29 | 29 | | chaplain; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty, honor, |
---|
31 | 31 | | and this nation, Mark Stone embodied the highest ideals of the armed |
---|
32 | 32 | | services, and memories of his love and friendship will forever be |
---|
33 | 33 | | cherished by all those who were privileged to know him; now, |
---|
34 | 34 | | therefore, be it |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant |

37 | 37 | | Mark A. Stone and extend deep sympathy to the members of his family: |

38 | 38 | | to his father, Donald Stone; to his brother, Jason Stone; and to his |

39 | 39 | | other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
