44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Words cannot fully express the sorrow felt at the
66 loss of U.S. Army Sergeant Mark A. Stone of Buchanan Dam, who died
77 on April 28, 2008, at the age of 22; and
88 WHEREAS, Sergeant Stone was a motor transport operator
99 assigned to F Company, 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade
1010 Combat Team, based at Fort Polk, Louisiana; he was mortally injured
1111 while bravely serving his country in Baghdad, Iraq; and
1212 WHEREAS, The son of Donald Stone and the late Bonnie Stone,
1313 Mark Stone graduated from Kingsland Christian Academy; following in
1414 his father's footsteps, he enlisted in the army and completed a
1515 yearlong tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2006; he was deployed to
1616 Iraq in November of the following year, and the heroism he
1717 demonstrated in battle earned him numerous decorations, including
1818 the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal; and
1919 WHEREAS, Sergeant Stone was a quiet, thoughtful, and
2020 determined young man who performed his military duties with
2121 enthusiasm, exceeding standards and positively influencing his
2222 fellow soldiers; he was greatly admired for his strength of
2323 character and integrity, as well as for his kind, helpful nature;
2424 and
2525 WHEREAS, When he was on leave, Sergeant Stone attended all
2626 three weekly services at Calvary Hill Church in Kingsland, where he
2727 was a valued member; he helped take care of the children on church
2828 field trips and expressed a desire to one day serve as a military
2929 chaplain; and
3030 WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty, honor,
3131 and this nation, Mark Stone embodied the highest ideals of the armed
3232 services, and memories of his love and friendship will forever be
3333 cherished by all those who were privileged to know him; now,
3434 therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3636 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant
3737 Mark A. Stone and extend deep sympathy to the members of his family:
3838 to his father, Donald Stone; to his brother, Jason Stone; and to his
3939 other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4242 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
4343 Sergeant Mark A. Stone.
