 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Words cannot fully express the sorrow felt at the
 loss of U.S. Army Sergeant Mark A. Stone of Buchanan Dam, who died
 on April 28, 2008, at the age of 22; and
 WHEREAS, Sergeant Stone was a motor transport operator
 assigned to F Company, 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade
 Combat Team, based at Fort Polk, Louisiana; he was mortally injured
 while bravely serving his country in Baghdad, Iraq; and
 WHEREAS, The son of Donald Stone and the late Bonnie Stone,
 Mark Stone graduated from Kingsland Christian Academy; following in
 his father's footsteps, he enlisted in the army and completed a
 yearlong tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2006; he was deployed to
 Iraq in November of the following year, and the heroism he
 demonstrated in battle earned him numerous decorations, including
 the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal; and
 WHEREAS, Sergeant Stone was a quiet, thoughtful, and
 determined young man who performed his military duties with
 enthusiasm, exceeding standards and positively influencing his
 fellow soldiers; he was greatly admired for his strength of
 character and integrity, as well as for his kind, helpful nature;
 and
 WHEREAS, When he was on leave, Sergeant Stone attended all
 three weekly services at Calvary Hill Church in Kingsland, where he
 was a valued member; he helped take care of the children on church
 field trips and expressed a desire to one day serve as a military
 chaplain; and
 WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty, honor,
 and this nation, Mark Stone embodied the highest ideals of the armed
 services, and memories of his love and friendship will forever be
 cherished by all those who were privileged to know him; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant
 Mark A. Stone and extend deep sympathy to the members of his family:
 to his father, Donald Stone; to his brother, Jason Stone; and to his
 other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
 Sergeant Mark A. Stone.
