| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Donald |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Shipley Boyd of Waxahachie, who died on March 13, 2009, at the age |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of 77; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Donald Boyd was born in Hillsboro on June 22, 1931, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to Oscar Lee and Roma Boyd; a 1949 graduate of Waxahachie High |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | School, he went on to earn a degree from Texas A&M University; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Boyd served |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and earned the rank of staff |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | sergeant; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, He enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a civil |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation and retired in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 1987, after 32 years of service; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, An active member of his community, Mr. Boyd served |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | on the Waxahachie Planning and Zoning Commission, was a member of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the Odd Fellows Lodge, and attended the Avenue Church; an avid |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | golfer, he served as president of the Waxahachie Country Club; he |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | also enjoyed traveling and RV camping; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Donald Boyd was devoted to his family, his friends, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and his community, and though he is no longer with us, he will |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of all those who knew |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and loved him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Donald Shipley Boyd |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | wife of 23 years, Lois Thompson Boyd; to his son, Michael Boyd, and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | his wife, Mary; to his stepchildren, Philip Thompson and his wife, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Cathy, and Teresa Thompson Walton; to his grandchildren, Donald |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Gordon Boyd, Anna Marie Boyd, Joshua Thompson, Jeffrey Thompson, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Jason Wooldridge, and Sunni Brooke Walton; to his |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | great-granddaughter, Alexia Thompson; and to his other family and |

| 35 | 35 | | friends; and, be it further |
