H.R. No. 2649 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Donald Shipley Boyd of Waxahachie, who died on March 13, 2009, at the age of 77; and WHEREAS, Donald Boyd was born in Hillsboro on June 22, 1931, to Oscar Lee and Roma Boyd; a 1949 graduate of Waxahachie High School, he went on to earn a degree from Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Boyd served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and earned the rank of staff sergeant; and WHEREAS, He enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a civil engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation and retired in 1987, after 32 years of service; and WHEREAS, An active member of his community, Mr. Boyd served on the Waxahachie Planning and Zoning Commission, was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, and attended the Avenue Church; an avid golfer, he served as president of the Waxahachie Country Club; he also enjoyed traveling and RV camping; and WHEREAS, Donald Boyd was devoted to his family, his friends, and his community, and though he is no longer with us, he will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Donald Shipley Boyd and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife of 23 years, Lois Thompson Boyd; to his son, Michael Boyd, and his wife, Mary; to his stepchildren, Philip Thompson and his wife, Cathy, and Teresa Thompson Walton; to his grandchildren, Donald Gordon Boyd, Anna Marie Boyd, Joshua Thompson, Jeffrey Thompson, Jason Wooldridge, and Sunni Brooke Walton; to his great-granddaughter, Alexia Thompson; and to his other family and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Donald Shipley Boyd.
