44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Sylvia G. Rodriguez is retiring in 2009 after 11
66 years of exemplary service as a staff member for several Texas
77 legislators; and
88 WHEREAS, Born Sylvia Theresa Garza in 1928, Mrs. Rodriguez
99 grew up in San Antonio amidst a large, loving family; at one point
1010 early in her life, she nearly followed one of her sisters, a
1111 recording artist and radio personality, into show business; having
1212 gained some theater experience in New York, Sylvia Garza had taken a
1313 screen test and won a movie contract; just before she was to start
1414 work, however, she returned home for a visit and met a young
1515 military pilot; throwing her other plans to the wind, she moved to
1616 Houston in 1950 and married her beloved aviator, David Garcia
1717 Rodriguez; and
1818 WHEREAS, Sylvia and David Rodriguez became the proud parents
1919 of six children and supported them wholeheartedly in their myriad
2020 activities; Mrs. Rodriguez also kept busy teaching crafts, tutoring
2121 elementary school students, and organizing an exercise class for
2222 stay-at-home mothers; at the request of the National Junior Tennis
2323 League, she coordinated a tennis program and saw the girls' team go
2424 on to win all-district and an invitation to play in the nationals in
2525 Washington, D.C.; and
2626 WHEREAS, After her husband passed away in 1974, Mrs.
2727 Rodriguez took a job in private industry; over the course of two
2828 decades, she served in various capacities and rose to the position
2929 of administrator; and
3030 WHEREAS, In 1999, Mrs. Rodriguez came out of retirement to
3131 become community liaison for newly elected state representative
3232 Rick Noriega, a post she held for 10 years; since Representative
3333 Noriega's retirement from the legislature, she has worked as
3434 community liaison in the offices of Representative Carol Alvarado
3535 and Senator Mario Gallegos; and
3636 WHEREAS, Following her second retirement, Mrs. Rodriguez
3737 plans to live in Buda, where she will be close to two of her
3838 children; she is looking forward to enjoying more time with her
3939 cherished family, which now includes 13 grandchildren and 2
4040 great-grandchildren; and
4141 WHEREAS, Sylvia Rodriguez has handled the responsibilities
4242 of her office with unfailing skill, helpfulness, and integrity,
4343 winning the admiration and affection of countless constituents, and
4444 it is indeed a privilege to commend her on a job well done; now,
4545 therefore, be it
4646 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4747 Legislature hereby congratulate Sylvia G. Rodriguez on the occasion
4848 of her retirement from her career with the Texas Legislature and
4949 extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness and
5050 fulfillment in the next exciting chapter of her life; and, be it
5151 further
5252 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5353 prepared for Mrs. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
5454 Texas House of Representatives.
