5	5	WHEREAS, Sylvia G. Rodriguez is retiring in 2009 after 11
6	6	years of exemplary service as a staff member for several Texas
7	7	legislators; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born Sylvia Theresa Garza in 1928, Mrs. Rodriguez
9	9	grew up in San Antonio amidst a large, loving family; at one point
10	10	early in her life, she nearly followed one of her sisters, a
11	11	recording artist and radio personality, into show business; having
12	12	gained some theater experience in New York, Sylvia Garza had taken a
13	13	screen test and won a movie contract; just before she was to start
14	14	work, however, she returned home for a visit and met a young
15	15	military pilot; throwing her other plans to the wind, she moved to
16	16	Houston in 1950 and married her beloved aviator, David Garcia
17	17	Rodriguez; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Sylvia and David Rodriguez became the proud parents
19	19	of six children and supported them wholeheartedly in their myriad
20	20	activities; Mrs. Rodriguez also kept busy teaching crafts, tutoring
21	21	elementary school students, and organizing an exercise class for
22	22	stay-at-home mothers; at the request of the National Junior Tennis
23	23	League, she coordinated a tennis program and saw the girls' team go
24	24	on to win all-district and an invitation to play in the nationals in
25	25	Washington, D.C.; and
26	26	WHEREAS, After her husband passed away in 1974, Mrs.
27	27	Rodriguez took a job in private industry; over the course of two
28	28	decades, she served in various capacities and rose to the position
29	29	of administrator; and
30	30	WHEREAS, In 1999, Mrs. Rodriguez came out of retirement to
31	31	become community liaison for newly elected state representative
32	32	Rick Noriega, a post she held for 10 years; since Representative
33	33	Noriega's retirement from the legislature, she has worked as
34	34	community liaison in the offices of Representative Carol Alvarado
35	35	and Senator Mario Gallegos; and
36	36	WHEREAS, Following her second retirement, Mrs. Rodriguez
37	37	plans to live in Buda, where she will be close to two of her
38	38	children; she is looking forward to enjoying more time with her
39	39	cherished family, which now includes 13 grandchildren and 2
40	40	great-grandchildren; and
41	41	WHEREAS, Sylvia Rodriguez has handled the responsibilities
42	42	of her office with unfailing skill, helpfulness, and integrity,
43	43	winning the admiration and affection of countless constituents, and
44	44	it is indeed a privilege to commend her on a job well done; now,
45	45	therefore, be it
46	46	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
47	47	Legislature hereby congratulate Sylvia G. Rodriguez on the occasion
48	48	of her retirement from her career with the Texas Legislature and
49	49	extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness and
50	50	fulfillment in the next exciting chapter of her life; and, be it
51	51	further
52	52	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53	53	prepared for Mrs. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
54	54	Texas House of Representatives.
