| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Kathleen Patricia McCartan of Austin has |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | distinguished herself as an outstanding attorney and a cherished |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | friend to many; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Mac and Mary Nolan McCartan, Kay |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | McCartan was born in 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri, and grew up in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Iowa; as a young woman, she excelled academically and went on to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | earn a bachelor's degree from Marycrest College, where she was on |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the Dean's List, and a master's degree in American history from |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Purdue University in Indiana; at Purdue, she met Richard Caprioli, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | whom she married in 1971, and the couple were blessed with three |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | children, Anne, Jean, and Richard; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In the late 1970s, Ms. McCartan relocated to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Houston, and while she was raising her children, she attended the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | University of Houston Law Center, gaining membership into the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | school's honor society, the Order of the Barons; after receiving |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | her law degree, she was admitted to the State Bars of Texas and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Pennsylvania and practiced at various offices in Houston before |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | joining her current firm, Mueller Law Offices in Austin, in 1998; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | with dedication, compassion, and a talent for drafting appellate |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | briefs, Ms. McCartan practices in such areas as personal injury and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | medical malpractice, and her clients include individuals harmed by |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | asbestos and families with children who have suffered injuries at |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | birth; this esteemed professional has also been affiliated with the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | American Trial Lawyers Association, and she completed the Gerry |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Spence Trial Lawyers College Regional Seminar in 2002; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Ms. McCartan takes great pleasure in spending time |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | in the company of her treasured family, and she is a proud |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | grandmother to Marie, Max, and Claire Girou, and Sebastian |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Creixell; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, A kind and caring woman with a genuine concern for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | others, Kay McCartan is truly a credit to her profession, and she |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | serves as an inspiration to friends and colleagues alike; now, |

| 37 | 37 | | therefore, be it |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby honor Kathleen Patricia McCartan on her notable |

| 40 | 40 | | achievements and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
