 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Kathleen Patricia McCartan of Austin has
 distinguished herself as an outstanding attorney and a cherished
 friend to many; and
 WHEREAS, The daughter of Mac and Mary Nolan McCartan, Kay
 McCartan was born in 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri, and grew up in
 Iowa; as a young woman, she excelled academically and went on to
 earn a bachelor's degree from Marycrest College, where she was on
 the Dean's List, and a master's degree in American history from
 Purdue University in Indiana; at Purdue, she met Richard Caprioli,
 whom she married in 1971, and the couple were blessed with three
 children, Anne, Jean, and Richard; and
 WHEREAS, In the late 1970s, Ms. McCartan relocated to
 Houston, and while she was raising her children, she attended the
 University of Houston Law Center, gaining membership into the
 school's honor society, the Order of the Barons; after receiving
 her law degree, she was admitted to the State Bars of Texas and
 Pennsylvania and practiced at various offices in Houston before
 joining her current firm, Mueller Law Offices in Austin, in 1998;
 with dedication, compassion, and a talent for drafting appellate
 briefs, Ms. McCartan practices in such areas as personal injury and
 medical malpractice, and her clients include individuals harmed by
 asbestos and families with children who have suffered injuries at
 birth; this esteemed professional has also been affiliated with the
 American Trial Lawyers Association, and she completed the Gerry
 Spence Trial Lawyers College Regional Seminar in 2002; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. McCartan takes great pleasure in spending time
 in the company of her treasured family, and she is a proud
 grandmother to Marie, Max, and Claire Girou, and Sebastian
 Creixell; and
 WHEREAS, A kind and caring woman with a genuine concern for
 others, Kay McCartan is truly a credit to her profession, and she
 serves as an inspiration to friends and colleagues alike; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Kathleen Patricia McCartan on her notable
 achievements and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
 success and happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. McCartan as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
