66 WHEREAS, Television meteorologist Amber Sullins of El Paso
77 has won the 2009 Best Weathercast Award for Division 3 from the
88 Texas Associated Press Broadcasters; and
99 WHEREAS, This impressive award represents Ms. Sullins's
1010 third consecutive win, as she received Best Weathercast Awards from
1111 TAPB in 2007 and 2008; and
1212 WHEREAS, A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Ms. Sullins earned her
1313 bachelor's degree in atmospheric science from the University of
1414 Arizona; while still in college, she worked for the National
1515 Weather Service in Tucson, designing an interactive website and
1616 participating in data analysis for the North American Monsoon
1717 Experiment; and
1818 WHEREAS, In 2005, Ms. Sullins moved to El Paso and joined the
1919 weather team at KVIA-TV, where she was responsible for the morning
2020 and noontime weather forecasts; a certified broadcast
2121 meteorologist, she is a member of the El Paso Extreme Weather Task
2222 Force; and
2323 WHEREAS, This talented and dynamic professional has spoken
2424 regularly about weather to students in El Paso schools, and she has
2525 taught meteorology classes at The University of Texas at El Paso
2626 Center for Lifelong Learning; and
2727 WHEREAS, Amber Sullins has proven herself to be a fine
2828 meteorologist and a first-rate broadcaster, and she may indeed take
2929 pride in winning this impressive award for the third consecutive
3030 year; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3232 Legislature hereby congratulate Amber Sullins for winning the 2009
3333 Best Weathercast Award and extend to her sincere best wishes for
3434 continued success; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3636 prepared for Ms. Sullins as an expression of high regard by the
3737 Texas House of Representatives.
