| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Allen Community Outreach has played an important |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | role in the greater Allen area for almost a quarter-century, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | providing financial assistance and a wide array of services to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | residents in need; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1985, ACO is a nonprofit organization |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | that addresses short-term crises, such as the loss of employment or |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | family illness, and also aids individuals requiring such extended |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | services as counseling and specialized assistance to regain |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | stability in their lives; families in financial difficulty can |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | obtain groceries from the food pantry, vouchers for clothing from |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the ACO Resale Shop, assistance in paying rent and utility bills, as |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | well as referrals to other human services agencies; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, ACO serves homebound residents, including seniors |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and the disabled, through its Meals on Wheels & More program, and it |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | collaborates with the Allen and Lovejoy Independent School |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Districts and local health care providers to offer vision, dental, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and auditory services to local schoolchildren; in addition to job |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | placement and counseling, ACO offers money management classes for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | families in partnership with Consumer Credit Counseling Services of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | McKinney, and it also organizes volunteers for small projects in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | behalf of elderly residents and others who are unable to make home |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | repairs or maintain their yards; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In the past year, Allen Community Outreach helped |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | more than 4,200 people in the Allen, Fairview, and Lucas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | communities, and with the economy in a severe downturn, an |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | increasing number of residents are turning to the organization for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | assistance; the ACO staff performs outstanding work with the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | generous assistance of many civic-minded volunteers, and their |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | vital efforts are indeed worthy of special recognition; now, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | therefore, be it |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby commend Allen Community Outreach for its |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | important contributions to area Texans and extend to its staff and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | volunteers sincere best wishes for continued success in their |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | endeavors; and, be it further |
