H.R. No. 2757 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Allen Community Outreach has played an important role in the greater Allen area for almost a quarter-century, providing financial assistance and a wide array of services to residents in need; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1985, ACO is a nonprofit organization that addresses short-term crises, such as the loss of employment or family illness, and also aids individuals requiring such extended services as counseling and specialized assistance to regain stability in their lives; families in financial difficulty can obtain groceries from the food pantry, vouchers for clothing from the ACO Resale Shop, assistance in paying rent and utility bills, as well as referrals to other human services agencies; and WHEREAS, ACO serves homebound residents, including seniors and the disabled, through its Meals on Wheels & More program, and it collaborates with the Allen and Lovejoy Independent School Districts and local health care providers to offer vision, dental, and auditory services to local schoolchildren; in addition to job placement and counseling, ACO offers money management classes for families in partnership with Consumer Credit Counseling Services of McKinney, and it also organizes volunteers for small projects in behalf of elderly residents and others who are unable to make home repairs or maintain their yards; and WHEREAS, In the past year, Allen Community Outreach helped more than 4,200 people in the Allen, Fairview, and Lucas communities, and with the economy in a severe downturn, an increasing number of residents are turning to the organization for assistance; the ACO staff performs outstanding work with the generous assistance of many civic-minded volunteers, and their vital efforts are indeed worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend Allen Community Outreach for its important contributions to area Texans and extend to its staff and volunteers sincere best wishes for continued success in their endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
