 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, In just its fifth season of competition, the
 softball team from The University of Texas at Tyler proved itself
 one of the finest in the nation, earning a spot in the 2009 NCAA
 Division III Softball College World Series; and
 WHEREAS, Finishing the year with an overall record of 39 wins
 and 10 losses, the Patriots claimed the American Southwest
 Conference title and then continued their superb play in the
 postseason; in the West Regional tournament, UT Tyler twice bested
 No. 1-ranked Linfield College to become one of the eight teams to
 compete in the World Series tournament in Montclair, New Jersey;
 and
 WHEREAS, This exceptional ball club received valuable
 contributions from all the members of the roster and saw two of its
 players, sophomore Whitney Wyly and senior Roo Richardson, become
 the first postseason All-Americans from UT Tyler; the squad was
 guided by head coach Mike Reed, with valuable input from assistant
 coaches Keith Bell, Christy Shipley-Gipson, Colby Gipson, and Kate
 Lightfield; and
 WHEREAS, Through teamwork and determination, the Patriots
 softball team has furthered UT Tyler's admirable tradition of
 athletic excellence, and the players may reflect with tremendous
 pride on a memorable year; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the softball team from The
 University of Texas at Tyler on its outstanding 2009 season and
 extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and staff for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
