| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The year 2010 marks the 75th anniversary of the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | founding of Kilgore College; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, During the summer of 1935, the citizens of Kilgore |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | voted to establish a junior college district within the Kilgore |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Independent School District, and on September 13 of that year, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Kilgore College offered its first classes to 229 students; since |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | that time, enrollment has increased to more than 5,500 students; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A publicly supported, two-year institution serving |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | East Texas, Kilgore College offers a wide range of postsecondary |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | educational opportunities, and it promotes high quality, great |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | value, easy access, and community focus; guided by the motto |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | "Emphasis Excellence," the college prepares students to enter the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | workforce or transfer to a four-year university, and it features a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | comprehensive financial aid program; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Kilgore College also offers instruction in small |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | business development, adult and continuing education, fine arts, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and athletics, and it is the home of the famous Rangerettes |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | dance-drill team; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, For 75 years, the faculty and staff of Kilgore |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | College have committed themselves to meeting the educational needs |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of the community, and the school has played a vital role in helping |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | many Texans build a bright and prosperous future for themselves; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of Kilgore |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | College and extend to all those associated with the institution |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
