44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Residents of Athens lost an admired civic leader and
66 a cherished friend with the passing of William C. "Dub" McCarty on
77 May 22, 2009, at the age of 79; and
88 WHEREAS, Born to Maggie Mae and Dorsey McCarty on June 13,
99 1929, in Scurry County, Dub McCarty graduated from Lamesa High
1010 School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the
1111 Korean War; on his return to Lamesa, Mr. McCarty entered the retail
1212 clothing business and became the proprietor of Mac's Men's Wear, and
1313 he later worked in corporate group insurance management in Dallas;
1414 in 1985, he launched a fire and casualty insurance business in Cedar
1515 Creek, and he opened an additional office in Athens, where he
1616 settled in 1999; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. McCarty was active in both the Cedar Creek and
1818 Athens Kiwanis Clubs, as well as the Athens Rotary Club, and he was
1919 a longtime Boy Scout troop leader; in addition, he helped establish
2020 the Library at Cedar Creek Lake and served on its first board of
2121 directors, and he was on the advisory committee that oversaw the
2222 expansion of the Henderson County Jail; he was also a past president
2323 of the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and a recipient of
2424 the group's Lifetime Achievement Award, and he was the chair of the
2525 Henderson County Republican Party from 1999 to 2007; moreover, he
2626 was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Order of the Eastern Star
2727 and a 32nd degree Mason; and
2828 WHEREAS, A respected and well-liked man, Dub McCarty led a
2929 life that is an inspiring example of the good one person can
3030 accomplish, and memories of him will forever be treasured by all who
3131 were privileged to share in his love and friendship; now,
3232 therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William C. "Dub"
3535 McCarty and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
3636 his wife of 58 years, JoAnn McCarty; to his daughters, Cynthia
3737 Weatherby and Mary Lou Kromer and her husband, Lanny; to his
3838 grandson, Cole Weatherby; to his half-brother, Dorval McCarty; and
3939 to his other loved ones, including Kyle, Kristen, and Preston
4040 Kromer, and Michelle and Daniel Cummings; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William
4444 "Dub" McCarty.
