| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Athens lost an admired civic leader and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | a cherished friend with the passing of William C. "Dub" McCarty on |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | May 22, 2009, at the age of 79; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born to Maggie Mae and Dorsey McCarty on June 13, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 1929, in Scurry County, Dub McCarty graduated from Lamesa High |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Korean War; on his return to Lamesa, Mr. McCarty entered the retail |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | clothing business and became the proprietor of Mac's Men's Wear, and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | he later worked in corporate group insurance management in Dallas; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in 1985, he launched a fire and casualty insurance business in Cedar |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Creek, and he opened an additional office in Athens, where he |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | settled in 1999; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. McCarty was active in both the Cedar Creek and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Athens Kiwanis Clubs, as well as the Athens Rotary Club, and he was |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a longtime Boy Scout troop leader; in addition, he helped establish |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the Library at Cedar Creek Lake and served on its first board of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | directors, and he was on the advisory committee that oversaw the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | expansion of the Henderson County Jail; he was also a past president |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and a recipient of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the group's Lifetime Achievement Award, and he was the chair of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Henderson County Republican Party from 1999 to 2007; moreover, he |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Order of the Eastern Star |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and a 32nd degree Mason; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A respected and well-liked man, Dub McCarty led a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | life that is an inspiring example of the good one person can |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | accomplish, and memories of him will forever be treasured by all who |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | were privileged to share in his love and friendship; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William C. "Dub" |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | McCarty and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | his wife of 58 years, JoAnn McCarty; to his daughters, Cynthia |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Weatherby and Mary Lou Kromer and her husband, Lanny; to his |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | grandson, Cole Weatherby; to his half-brother, Dorval McCarty; and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | to his other loved ones, including Kyle, Kristen, and Preston |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Kromer, and Michelle and Daniel Cummings; and, be it further |

| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 42 | 42 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |

| 43 | 43 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William |
