 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Residents of Athens lost an admired civic leader and
 a cherished friend with the passing of William C. "Dub" McCarty on
 May 22, 2009, at the age of 79; and
 WHEREAS, Born to Maggie Mae and Dorsey McCarty on June 13,
 1929, in Scurry County, Dub McCarty graduated from Lamesa High
 School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the
 Korean War; on his return to Lamesa, Mr. McCarty entered the retail
 clothing business and became the proprietor of Mac's Men's Wear, and
 he later worked in corporate group insurance management in Dallas;
 in 1985, he launched a fire and casualty insurance business in Cedar
 Creek, and he opened an additional office in Athens, where he
 settled in 1999; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. McCarty was active in both the Cedar Creek and
 Athens Kiwanis Clubs, as well as the Athens Rotary Club, and he was
 a longtime Boy Scout troop leader; in addition, he helped establish
 the Library at Cedar Creek Lake and served on its first board of
 directors, and he was on the advisory committee that oversaw the
 expansion of the Henderson County Jail; he was also a past president
 of the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and a recipient of
 the group's Lifetime Achievement Award, and he was the chair of the
 Henderson County Republican Party from 1999 to 2007; moreover, he
 was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Order of the Eastern Star
 and a 32nd degree Mason; and
 WHEREAS, A respected and well-liked man, Dub McCarty led a
 life that is an inspiring example of the good one person can
 accomplish, and memories of him will forever be treasured by all who
 were privileged to share in his love and friendship; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William C. "Dub"
 McCarty and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
 his wife of 58 years, JoAnn McCarty; to his daughters, Cynthia
 Weatherby and Mary Lou Kromer and her husband, Lanny; to his
 grandson, Cole Weatherby; to his half-brother, Dorval McCarty; and
 to his other loved ones, including Kyle, Kristen, and Preston
 Kromer, and Michelle and Daniel Cummings; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William
 "Dub" McCarty.
