44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Lisa Hood Urban of Baytown
66 on November 17, 2007, at the age of 51, brought a profoundly felt
77 loss to her family, to her friends and colleagues, and to the
88 residents of her community; and
99 WHEREAS, Born in Houston on May 20, 1956, this esteemed Texan
1010 relocated to Baytown with her family in 1965; as a youth, she worked
1111 in the accounting office of The Baytown Sun before graduating from
1212 Ross S. Sterling High School in 1974; she attended Lee College, but
1313 later transferred to The University of Texas at Austin, and she
1414 graduated with honors; she met her future husband, Johnny Urban,
1515 while she was in college, and in 1982, the couple returned to
1616 Baytown, where they raised their two sons, John Paul and Matthew;
1717 and
1818 WHEREAS, Ms. Urban established the accounting firm
1919 Mendelovitz Urban and Associates in Baytown, and despite her busy
2020 professional life, she devoted countless hours to area
2121 organizations; she was a member of the Rotary Club of Baytown, and
2222 she was active on the Police Academy Advisory Board and in the
2323 United Way of Baytown Area and St. Jude's Catholic Church in
2424 Highlands; she also served as president of the Lakewood Civic
2525 Association and as the first female chair of the Baytown Chamber of
2626 Commerce, and she was on the board of the Friends of Lee College
2727 Foundation; a dedicated volunteer, Ms. Urban was the chair of the
2828 Baytown Area Community Long-Range Planning Commission and the
2929 co-chair of the Regional Urban Design Assistant Team, and she was
3030 named The Baytown Sun Citizen of the Year in 1996; and
3131 WHEREAS, With her generosity and civic leadership, Lisa Urban
3232 benefited her community in myriad ways, and her remarkable legacy
3333 will be forever treasured by all those who were fortunate enough to
3434 know her; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3636 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lisa Hood Urban and
3737 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband
3838 of three decades, Johnny Urban; to her sons, John Paul Urban III and
3939 Matthew Urban; to her parents, Betty Joe and David Boothe; to her
4040 sisters, Rita Sheppard and Dee Anne Navarre; to her stepbrother and
4141 sister-in-law, Greg and Debbie Boothe; to her mother-in-law, Fern
4242 Urban; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it
4343 further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4646 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lisa Hood
4747 Urban.
