5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Lisa Hood Urban of Baytown |
---|
6 | 6 | | on November 17, 2007, at the age of 51, brought a profoundly felt |
---|
7 | 7 | | loss to her family, to her friends and colleagues, and to the |
---|
8 | 8 | | residents of her community; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Houston on May 20, 1956, this esteemed Texan |
---|
10 | 10 | | relocated to Baytown with her family in 1965; as a youth, she worked |
---|
11 | 11 | | in the accounting office of The Baytown Sun before graduating from |
---|
12 | 12 | | Ross S. Sterling High School in 1974; she attended Lee College, but |
---|
13 | 13 | | later transferred to The University of Texas at Austin, and she |
---|
14 | 14 | | graduated with honors; she met her future husband, Johnny Urban, |
---|
15 | 15 | | while she was in college, and in 1982, the couple returned to |
---|
16 | 16 | | Baytown, where they raised their two sons, John Paul and Matthew; |
---|
17 | 17 | | and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Urban established the accounting firm |
---|
19 | 19 | | Mendelovitz Urban and Associates in Baytown, and despite her busy |
---|
20 | 20 | | professional life, she devoted countless hours to area |
---|
21 | 21 | | organizations; she was a member of the Rotary Club of Baytown, and |
---|
22 | 22 | | she was active on the Police Academy Advisory Board and in the |
---|
23 | 23 | | United Way of Baytown Area and St. Jude's Catholic Church in |
---|
24 | 24 | | Highlands; she also served as president of the Lakewood Civic |
---|
25 | 25 | | Association and as the first female chair of the Baytown Chamber of |
---|
26 | 26 | | Commerce, and she was on the board of the Friends of Lee College |
---|
27 | 27 | | Foundation; a dedicated volunteer, Ms. Urban was the chair of the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Baytown Area Community Long-Range Planning Commission and the |
---|
29 | 29 | | co-chair of the Regional Urban Design Assistant Team, and she was |
---|
30 | 30 | | named The Baytown Sun Citizen of the Year in 1996; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, With her generosity and civic leadership, Lisa Urban |
---|
32 | 32 | | benefited her community in myriad ways, and her remarkable legacy |
---|
33 | 33 | | will be forever treasured by all those who were fortunate enough to |
---|
34 | 34 | | know her; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lisa Hood Urban and |
---|
37 | 37 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband |

38 | 38 | | of three decades, Johnny Urban; to her sons, John Paul Urban III and |
---|
39 | 39 | | Matthew Urban; to her parents, Betty Joe and David Boothe; to her |

40 | 40 | | sisters, Rita Sheppard and Dee Anne Navarre; to her stepbrother and |

41 | 41 | | sister-in-law, Greg and Debbie Boothe; to her mother-in-law, Fern |
