| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Michael W. Mansfield has retired from his |

| 6 | 6 | | position as associate professor of political science at Baylor |

| 7 | 7 | | University, concluding more than 36 years of exceptional service to |

| 8 | 8 | | the institution; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Oklahoma Christian College, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Dr. Mansfield earned his master's degree from North Texas State |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | University and went on to earn his doctorate from the University of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Missouri; he began his career as an instructor at Putnam City High |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | School, and after teaching at Christian College of the Southwest |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for two years, he joined the faculty at Baylor University in 1973; |
|---|

|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansfield is a respected member of the academic |

| 17 | 17 | | community, having published two books, Drama in Life: The Uses of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Communication in Society and Government and the News Media: |

| 19 | 19 | | Comparative Dimensions, as well as numerous articles in scholarly |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | journals addressing such topics as presidential debates and the use |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of television in political campaigns; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Demonstrating unwavering passion for his chosen |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | field, this esteemed educator has sparked the curiosity and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | interest of countless students through the years, and he may indeed |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | reflect with pride on a career well spent; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Michael W. Mansfield on his |
