 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Mary Benham is retiring from the Socorro Independent
 School District on June 30, 2009, drawing to a close a notable
 career that has spanned three and a half decades; and
 WHEREAS, A member of the Socorro ISD staff for the past 11
 years, Ms. Benham formerly served the district as assistant
 superintendent for financial services; in that capacity, she
 oversaw the growth of the district's fund balance from $10 million
 to almost $45 million, a figure that ensures a better bond rating
 and that enables the district to maintain competitive salaries and
 sustainable programs for schools; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Benham has held the post of interim
 superintendent for the 2008-2009 school year, and during her tenure
 the district's Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills scores have
 greatly improved; it is likely that 11 schools will be rated
 Exemplary, up from 3 a year ago; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career with the
 Socorro ISD, Ms. Benham has earned the admiration of her fellow
 administrators as well as the respect of teachers, students, and
 parents, and she may indeed take great pride in her achievements as
 she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Mary Benham on the occasion of her
 retirement from the Socorro Independent School District and extend
 to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Benham as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
