| 6 | 6 | | held its 26th Annual Regional Training Conference in Dallas on |

| 7 | 7 | | April 23 and 24, 2009; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1976 in Rockville, Maryland, Blacks |

| 9 | 9 | | in Government (BIG) is a national nonprofit and nonpartisan |

| 10 | 10 | | organization for African American employees of local, state, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | federal governments; BIG promotes equity and opportunity for all |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Americans and excellence in public service through training and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | education; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Region VI of BIG includes chapters from Texas, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, representing |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | employees at a variety of governmental agencies; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This year's regional training conference focuses on |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the theme of "A New Dawn of Leadership--Prepare Yourself for the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Challenges"; designed to help governmental employees adapt to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | changing technology and diversity in the workplace, the conference |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | features useful workshops on retirement planning, professional |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | development, conflict management, and health; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, By coming together to share their experiences and to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | discuss issues of mutual concern, the Region VI members of Blacks in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Government are helping to make government more effective and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | equitable for all Americans; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 26th Annual Regional Training |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Conference of Region VI of Blacks in Government and extend sincere |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | best wishes to the organization's members for continued success |

| 31 | 31 | | with their important work; and, be it further |
