H.R. No. 2957 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Region VI of the Blacks in Government organization held its 26th Annual Regional Training Conference in Dallas on April 23 and 24, 2009; and WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1976 in Rockville, Maryland, Blacks in Government (BIG) is a national nonprofit and nonpartisan organization for African American employees of local, state, and federal governments; BIG promotes equity and opportunity for all Americans and excellence in public service through training and education; and WHEREAS, Region VI of BIG includes chapters from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, representing employees at a variety of governmental agencies; and WHEREAS, This year's regional training conference focuses on the theme of "A New Dawn of Leadership--Prepare Yourself for the Challenges"; designed to help governmental employees adapt to changing technology and diversity in the workplace, the conference features useful workshops on retirement planning, professional development, conflict management, and health; and WHEREAS, By coming together to share their experiences and to discuss issues of mutual concern, the Region VI members of Blacks in Government are helping to make government more effective and equitable for all Americans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 26th Annual Regional Training Conference of Region VI of Blacks in Government and extend sincere best wishes to the organization's members for continued success with their important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Region VI of BIG as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
