H.R. No. 3056 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, In a season-long demonstration of teamwork and determination, the softball team from Tuloso Midway High School in Corpus Christi claimed district, bi-district, and area titles and advanced to the regional quarterfinal round of the University Interscholastic League 4A playoffs; and WHEREAS, The Cherokees claimed the 31-4A championship by winning each of their 11 conference games, and they closed out the regular season with a 10-game winning streak in which they gave up a total of just three runs and held the majority of their opponents scoreless; and WHEREAS, In the playoffs, Tuloso Midway bested Mission Veterans Memorial High School and then topped Port Lavaca Calhoun in a three-game series to earn a spot in the regional quarterfinals; there, the squad fell to Medina Valley in a hard-fought 1-0 game to close out the season with an overall record of 22 wins and 5 losses; and WHEREAS, Relying on a true team effort during the 2009 campaign, the Cherokees received vital contributions from each member of the roster: Emily Brittain, Melissa Cantu, Jessica Cantu, Jordan Castillo, Liz Cerny, Kelsey Coburn, Valerie Colunga, Christina Deleon, Courtney Evans, Ashley Galvan, Jessica Garcia, Amy Gonzalez, Megan Munis, Danielle Riley, Lauren Schwirtlich, Kirsten Schwirtlich, Ashley Valdez, Christina Villalon, and Tasha Zamora; and WHEREAS, These skilled athletes were guided by head coach Joe Green and assistant coaches Sally Lozano and Alvaro Villalon, whose expertise and inspiration were key to the team's triumphs; and WHEREAS, With the enthusiastic support of their many fans, the Tuloso Midway players and coaches combined for a memorable season, and their spirited performances on the ball field were a source of great pride to their school; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the 2009 Tuloso Midway High School softball team on its outstanding accomplishments and extend to the athletes and coaching staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
