55 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt
66 at the loss of U.S. Army Sergeant Shaun Paul Tousha of Hull, who
77 died in Iraq on April 9, 2008, at the age of 30; and
88 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armored
99 Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Hood, Sergeant
1010 Tousha was killed in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device
1111 detonated near his vehicle; at the time, he was serving his third
1212 tour of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
1313 WHEREAS, Born on February 11, 1978, in Silsbee, Shaun Tousha
1414 grew up in Hull, the son of Tommy Gene and Roberta Tousha; his
1515 mother passed away while he was in junior high, and his stepmother,
1616 Doris Tousha, later helped raise him; he graduated in 1996 from
1717 Hull-Daisetta High School, where he played football and was known
1818 for his playful sense of humor and friendly nature; a true Texas
1919 cowboy, he enjoyed riding horses and bulls and going country and
2020 western dancing; and
2121 WHEREAS, Sergeant Tousha worked for a wire company in Dayton
2222 before joining the army in 2000; he attended basic training in Fort
2323 Benning, Georgia, and subsequently served as a generator equipment
2424 repairman; during his first deployment to Iraq, he decided to
2525 reenlist and pursue a career in the military; and
2626 WHEREAS, He was the caring husband of Christy Tousha and a
2727 role model to his stepchildren, Colton and Maycee; following the
2828 death of his father in 2002, he served as a source of strength and
2929 reassurance for his stepmother; and
3030 WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
3131 women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
3232 service, yet the tragic death of this brave young man is a sobering
3333 reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant Shaun Tousha embodied the
3434 highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and
3535 loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
3636 therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant
3939 Shaun Paul Tousha and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
4040 family: to his wife, Christy Tousha; to his brother, Tommy; to his
4141 stepchildren, Colton and Maycee Burns; to his stepmother, Doris
4242 Tousha; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
4343 further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4646 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Shaun Paul
4747 Tousha.
