6 | 6 | | at the loss of U.S. Army Sergeant Shaun Paul Tousha of Hull, who |

7 | 7 | | died in Iraq on April 9, 2008, at the age of 30; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armored |
---|
9 | 9 | | Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Hood, Sergeant |
---|
10 | 10 | | Tousha was killed in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device |
---|
11 | 11 | | detonated near his vehicle; at the time, he was serving his third |
---|
12 | 12 | | tour of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Born on February 11, 1978, in Silsbee, Shaun Tousha |
---|
14 | 14 | | grew up in Hull, the son of Tommy Gene and Roberta Tousha; his |
---|
15 | 15 | | mother passed away while he was in junior high, and his stepmother, |

16 | 16 | | Doris Tousha, later helped raise him; he graduated in 1996 from |

17 | 17 | | Hull-Daisetta High School, where he played football and was known |
---|
18 | 18 | | for his playful sense of humor and friendly nature; a true Texas |
---|
19 | 19 | | cowboy, he enjoyed riding horses and bulls and going country and |
---|
20 | 20 | | western dancing; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Tousha worked for a wire company in Dayton |
---|
22 | 22 | | before joining the army in 2000; he attended basic training in Fort |
---|
23 | 23 | | Benning, Georgia, and subsequently served as a generator equipment |
---|
24 | 24 | | repairman; during his first deployment to Iraq, he decided to |
---|
25 | 25 | | reenlist and pursue a career in the military; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, He was the caring husband of Christy Tousha and a |
---|
27 | 27 | | role model to his stepchildren, Colton and Maycee; following the |
---|
28 | 28 | | death of his father in 2002, he served as a source of strength and |
---|
29 | 29 | | reassurance for his stepmother; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
---|
31 | 31 | | women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military |
---|
32 | 32 | | service, yet the tragic death of this brave young man is a sobering |
---|
33 | 33 | | reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant Shaun Tousha embodied the |
---|
34 | 34 | | highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and |
---|
35 | 35 | | loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now, |
---|
36 | 36 | | therefore, be it |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant |
