55 WHEREAS, Individuals of all ages are afflicted by rare,
66 chronic, and life-threatening genetic conditions, and they rely
77 upon vital plasma protein therapies; and
88 WHEREAS, Such disorders include hemophilia, Kawasaki
99 disease, hepatitis, pediatric HIV, von Willebrand disease, and
1010 other immune system deficiencies, all of which are treated most
1111 effectively with the therapies produced from plasma and with the
1212 use of recombinant technology; and
1313 WHEREAS, Patients who have access to the full range of plasma
1414 protein therapies, to the appropriate providers, and to various
1515 options in pharmacy and home-supported services often experience
1616 the best possible clinical outcomes, and thus, a comprehensive
1717 system of care is essential; and
1818 WHEREAS, Plasma protein therapies help to ensure a higher
1919 quality of life for many patients across the United States, and
2020 greater awareness and understanding of this issue contributes to
2121 the health and well-being of our communities; now, therefore, be it
2222 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2323 Legislature hereby recognize August 2009 as Plasma Protein
2424 Therapies Month in the Lone Star State and encourage all Texans to
2525 learn more about the conditions that are treated by plasma protein
2626 therapies and to explore the resources that are available to them.
