| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Individuals of all ages are afflicted by rare, |

| 6 | 6 | | chronic, and life-threatening genetic conditions, and they rely |

| 7 | 7 | | upon vital plasma protein therapies; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Such disorders include hemophilia, Kawasaki |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | disease, hepatitis, pediatric HIV, von Willebrand disease, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | other immune system deficiencies, all of which are treated most |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | effectively with the therapies produced from plasma and with the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | use of recombinant technology; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Patients who have access to the full range of plasma |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | protein therapies, to the appropriate providers, and to various |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | options in pharmacy and home-supported services often experience |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the best possible clinical outcomes, and thus, a comprehensive |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | system of care is essential; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Plasma protein therapies help to ensure a higher |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | quality of life for many patients across the United States, and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | greater awareness and understanding of this issue contributes to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the health and well-being of our communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 23 | 23 | | Legislature hereby recognize August 2009 as Plasma Protein |

| 24 | 24 | | Therapies Month in the Lone Star State and encourage all Texans to |

| 25 | 25 | | learn more about the conditions that are treated by plasma protein |

| 26 | 26 | | therapies and to explore the resources that are available to them. |
