 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Individuals of all ages are afflicted by rare,
 chronic, and life-threatening genetic conditions, and they rely
 upon vital plasma protein therapies; and
 WHEREAS, Such disorders include hemophilia, Kawasaki
 disease, hepatitis, pediatric HIV, von Willebrand disease, and
 other immune system deficiencies, all of which are treated most
 effectively with the therapies produced from plasma and with the
 use of recombinant technology; and
 WHEREAS, Patients who have access to the full range of plasma
 protein therapies, to the appropriate providers, and to various
 options in pharmacy and home-supported services often experience
 the best possible clinical outcomes, and thus, a comprehensive
 system of care is essential; and
 WHEREAS, Plasma protein therapies help to ensure a higher
 quality of life for many patients across the United States, and
 greater awareness and understanding of this issue contributes to
 the health and well-being of our communities; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize August 2009 as Plasma Protein
 Therapies Month in the Lone Star State and encourage all Texans to
 learn more about the conditions that are treated by plasma protein
 therapies and to explore the resources that are available to them.
