44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Raymond Risk,
66 Sr., of Sherman, who died on June 21, 2008, at the age of 85; and
77 WHEREAS, Raymond Risk was born on April 28, 1923, to Julia
88 David and John Naif Risk; after graduating from Sherman High School
99 in 1941, he attended Austin College; he was joined in matrimony to
1010 Lillian Risk, and they became the parents of three children, Naif,
1111 Raymond, and Sarah; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Risk was a decorated soldier with the U.S. Army
1313 during World War II, serving as a sergeant under General George
1414 Patton in the 94th Medical Gas Treatment Battalion of the 3rd Army;
1515 and
1616 WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life in Sherman after the war,
1717 he took over Risk Shoe Store and Shoe Repair from his father; he ran
1818 the shop successfully until his retirement in 2002, and this
1919 well-known local business is currently operated by Mr. Risk's son,
2020 Naif; and
2121 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Raymond Risk continued to honor
2222 his military service as a member of the American Legion, AMVETS, the
2323 Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
2424 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan also shared his time with the
2525 Sherman Noon Lions Club; a member for 61 years, he held several
2626 offices, including president, was recognized as a life member of
2727 the Julien C. Hyer Lions Youth Camp and the Texas Lions Camp, and
2828 was named a Melvin Jones Fellow; in addition, Mr. Risk was a
2929 dedicated member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the Odd
3030 Fellows; and
3131 WHEREAS, A brave soldier, a community leader, and a respected
3232 businessman, Raymond Risk, Sr., excelled in each of these roles,
3333 and his long and productive life serves as an inspiration to those
3434 who were fortunate enough to share in his love and friendship; now,
3535 therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3737 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Raymond Risk, Sr.,
3838 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
3939 son, Naif Risk, his wife, Cindy, and their niece, Lauren Stephens;
4040 to his son, Raymond Risk, his wife, Nancy, and their son, Noah; to
4141 his sister, Jeanette Snyder; to his brother, William Risk, and his
4242 wife, Margaret Ann; to his in-laws, Norma Oren and her husband, Bob,
4343 Ernest Horany and his wife, Eileen, and Julia Waldrop and her
4444 husband, Kenneth; to his dear friend and companion, Mary Moses; and
4545 to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4848 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Raymond
4949 Risk, Sr.
