5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Raymond Risk, |
---|
6 | 6 | | Sr., of Sherman, who died on June 21, 2008, at the age of 85; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Risk was born on April 28, 1923, to Julia |
---|
8 | 8 | | David and John Naif Risk; after graduating from Sherman High School |
---|
9 | 9 | | in 1941, he attended Austin College; he was joined in matrimony to |
---|
10 | 10 | | Lillian Risk, and they became the parents of three children, Naif, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Raymond, and Sarah; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Risk was a decorated soldier with the U.S. Army |
---|
13 | 13 | | during World War II, serving as a sergeant under General George |
---|
14 | 14 | | Patton in the 94th Medical Gas Treatment Battalion of the 3rd Army; |
---|
15 | 15 | | and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life in Sherman after the war, |
---|
17 | 17 | | he took over Risk Shoe Store and Shoe Repair from his father; he ran |
---|
18 | 18 | | the shop successfully until his retirement in 2002, and this |
---|
19 | 19 | | well-known local business is currently operated by Mr. Risk's son, |
---|
20 | 20 | | Naif; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Raymond Risk continued to honor |
---|
22 | 22 | | his military service as a member of the American Legion, AMVETS, the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan also shared his time with the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Sherman Noon Lions Club; a member for 61 years, he held several |
---|
26 | 26 | | offices, including president, was recognized as a life member of |
---|
27 | 27 | | the Julien C. Hyer Lions Youth Camp and the Texas Lions Camp, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | was named a Melvin Jones Fellow; in addition, Mr. Risk was a |
---|
29 | 29 | | dedicated member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the Odd |
---|
30 | 30 | | Fellows; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A brave soldier, a community leader, and a respected |
---|
32 | 32 | | businessman, Raymond Risk, Sr., excelled in each of these roles, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and his long and productive life serves as an inspiration to those |
---|
34 | 34 | | who were fortunate enough to share in his love and friendship; now, |
---|
35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Raymond Risk, Sr., |
---|
38 | 38 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |

39 | 39 | | son, Naif Risk, his wife, Cindy, and their niece, Lauren Stephens; |

40 | 40 | | to his son, Raymond Risk, his wife, Nancy, and their son, Noah; to |

41 | 41 | | his sister, Jeanette Snyder; to his brother, William Risk, and his |
---|
42 | 42 | | wife, Margaret Ann; to his in-laws, Norma Oren and her husband, Bob, |

43 | 43 | | Ernest Horany and his wife, Eileen, and Julia Waldrop and her |

44 | 44 | | husband, Kenneth; to his dear friend and companion, Mary Moses; and |
