 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Raymond Risk,
 Sr., of Sherman, who died on June 21, 2008, at the age of 85; and
 WHEREAS, Raymond Risk was born on April 28, 1923, to Julia
 David and John Naif Risk; after graduating from Sherman High School
 in 1941, he attended Austin College; he was joined in matrimony to
 Lillian Risk, and they became the parents of three children, Naif,
 Raymond, and Sarah; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Risk was a decorated soldier with the U.S. Army
 during World War II, serving as a sergeant under General George
 Patton in the 94th Medical Gas Treatment Battalion of the 3rd Army;
 and
 WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life in Sherman after the war,
 he took over Risk Shoe Store and Shoe Repair from his father; he ran
 the shop successfully until his retirement in 2002, and this
 well-known local business is currently operated by Mr. Risk's son,
 Naif; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Raymond Risk continued to honor
 his military service as a member of the American Legion, AMVETS, the
 Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan also shared his time with the
 Sherman Noon Lions Club; a member for 61 years, he held several
 offices, including president, was recognized as a life member of
 the Julien C. Hyer Lions Youth Camp and the Texas Lions Camp, and
 was named a Melvin Jones Fellow; in addition, Mr. Risk was a
 dedicated member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the Odd
 Fellows; and
 WHEREAS, A brave soldier, a community leader, and a respected
 businessman, Raymond Risk, Sr., excelled in each of these roles,
 and his long and productive life serves as an inspiration to those
 who were fortunate enough to share in his love and friendship; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Raymond Risk, Sr.,
 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
 son, Naif Risk, his wife, Cindy, and their niece, Lauren Stephens;
 to his son, Raymond Risk, his wife, Nancy, and their son, Noah; to
 his sister, Jeanette Snyder; to his brother, William Risk, and his
 wife, Margaret Ann; to his in-laws, Norma Oren and her husband, Bob,
 Ernest Horany and his wife, Eileen, and Julia Waldrop and her
 husband, Kenneth; to his dear friend and companion, Mary Moses; and
 to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Raymond
 Risk, Sr.
