5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Kerrville lost a beloved neighbor and |

6 | 6 | | admired member of the medical community with the passing of Dr. |

7 | 7 | | James Carr Stokes on May 25, 2009; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on March 24, 1947, to William and Irene Carr |
---|
9 | 9 | | Stokes in Del Rio, James Stokes grew up in Encinal and graduated |
---|
10 | 10 | | from high school in Cotulla before answering his nation's call to |
---|
11 | 11 | | duty with service in the U.S. Air Force; he was a graduate of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Schreiner College, The University of Texas, and The University of |
---|
13 | 13 | | Texas Dental School; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stokes married the former Rebecca Dobie in 1969; |
---|
15 | 15 | | the couple raised a loving family that grew to include three |
---|
16 | 16 | | children, Rebecca, Jim, and Carr, as well as two grandchildren; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A resident of Houston for 25 years, Dr. Stokes |
---|
18 | 18 | | fulfilled one of his dreams in 1992, when he moved his family to the |
---|
19 | 19 | | Texas Hill Country and opened an independent periodontal practice |
---|
20 | 20 | | in Kerrville; he served as president of the Heart of Texas Dental |
---|
21 | 21 | | Association and took a prominent role in many community |
---|
22 | 22 | | organizations and initiatives; he was a member of Trinity |
---|
23 | 23 | | Presbyterian Church in Boerne, founded the Young Life Adult |
---|
24 | 24 | | Committee, and was a longtime supporter and board member of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Salvation Army; moreover, Dr. Stokes also found time amidst his |
---|
26 | 26 | | other commitments to develop his talents as a musician; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, James Stokes demonstrated |
---|
28 | 28 | | humility, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to his family |
---|
29 | 29 | | and his profession, and he will be fondly remembered and deeply |
---|
30 | 30 | | missed by all who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, |
---|
31 | 31 | | be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. James Carr Stokes |

34 | 34 | | and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |

35 | 35 | | wife, Becky Stokes; to his children, Rebecca Stokes, Jim Dobie |

36 | 36 | | Stokes and his wife, Allison, and Carr Stokes and his wife, Becca; |
