44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Residents of Kerrville lost a beloved neighbor and
66 admired member of the medical community with the passing of Dr.
77 James Carr Stokes on May 25, 2009; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on March 24, 1947, to William and Irene Carr
99 Stokes in Del Rio, James Stokes grew up in Encinal and graduated
1010 from high school in Cotulla before answering his nation's call to
1111 duty with service in the U.S. Air Force; he was a graduate of
1212 Schreiner College, The University of Texas, and The University of
1313 Texas Dental School; and
1414 WHEREAS, Dr. Stokes married the former Rebecca Dobie in 1969;
1515 the couple raised a loving family that grew to include three
1616 children, Rebecca, Jim, and Carr, as well as two grandchildren; and
1717 WHEREAS, A resident of Houston for 25 years, Dr. Stokes
1818 fulfilled one of his dreams in 1992, when he moved his family to the
1919 Texas Hill Country and opened an independent periodontal practice
2020 in Kerrville; he served as president of the Heart of Texas Dental
2121 Association and took a prominent role in many community
2222 organizations and initiatives; he was a member of Trinity
2323 Presbyterian Church in Boerne, founded the Young Life Adult
2424 Committee, and was a longtime supporter and board member of the
2525 Salvation Army; moreover, Dr. Stokes also found time amidst his
2626 other commitments to develop his talents as a musician; and
2727 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, James Stokes demonstrated
2828 humility, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to his family
2929 and his profession, and he will be fondly remembered and deeply
3030 missed by all who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore,
3131 be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3333 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. James Carr Stokes
3434 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
3535 wife, Becky Stokes; to his children, Rebecca Stokes, Jim Dobie
3636 Stokes and his wife, Allison, and Carr Stokes and his wife, Becca;
3737 to his grandchildren, Ellie and Georgia Stokes; to his sister,
3838 Carol S. Stokes Gilbert; to his mother-in-law, Fredna Wood; to his
3939 brother-in-law, Richard Dobie, and his wife, Debbie; to his niece,
4040 Lee Ann Gilbert Waldrip; and to his other relatives and many
4141 friends; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James
4545 Stokes.
