H.R. No. 3122 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Residents of Kerrville lost a beloved neighbor and admired member of the medical community with the passing of Dr. James Carr Stokes on May 25, 2009; and WHEREAS, Born on March 24, 1947, to William and Irene Carr Stokes in Del Rio, James Stokes grew up in Encinal and graduated from high school in Cotulla before answering his nation's call to duty with service in the U.S. Air Force; he was a graduate of Schreiner College, The University of Texas, and The University of Texas Dental School; and WHEREAS, Dr. Stokes married the former Rebecca Dobie in 1969; the couple raised a loving family that grew to include three children, Rebecca, Jim, and Carr, as well as two grandchildren; and WHEREAS, A resident of Houston for 25 years, Dr. Stokes fulfilled one of his dreams in 1992, when he moved his family to the Texas Hill Country and opened an independent periodontal practice in Kerrville; he served as president of the Heart of Texas Dental Association and took a prominent role in many community organizations and initiatives; he was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Boerne, founded the Young Life Adult Committee, and was a longtime supporter and board member of the Salvation Army; moreover, Dr. Stokes also found time amidst his other commitments to develop his talents as a musician; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, James Stokes demonstrated humility, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to his family and his profession, and he will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. James Carr Stokes and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Becky Stokes; to his children, Rebecca Stokes, Jim Dobie Stokes and his wife, Allison, and Carr Stokes and his wife, Becca; to his grandchildren, Ellie and Georgia Stokes; to his sister, Carol S. Stokes Gilbert; to his mother-in-law, Fredna Wood; to his brother-in-law, Richard Dobie, and his wife, Debbie; to his niece, Lee Ann Gilbert Waldrip; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James Stokes.
