H.R. No. 3129
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, MacArthur Senior High School of the Aldine
Independent School District in Houston is holding its commencement
ceremony on June 6, 2009, and this occasion provides a fitting
opportunity to recognize four exceptional graduating seniors; and
WHEREAS, Graduating magna cum laude, Alejandra Garcia is a
member of the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor
Society, and she has served her fellow students through peer
mentoring and mediation; she has earned the Houston Livestock Show
and Rodeo Metropolitan Scholarship, the Longhorn Presidential
Scholarship, and a Texas Student Housing Scholarship, awards
totaling nearly $30,000; and
WHEREAS, Cinthia Garcia is one of only 5,000 students to be
named a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar; she is ranked second
in her class, and her exceptional academic record has earned her a
full scholarship to Johns Hopkins University; and
WHEREAS, Claudia Pineda has earned a full scholarship to the
University of New Mexico; a magna cum laude graduate, she has been
accepted into the National Honor Society and National Technical
Honor Society and she has been active in the drama club and the
Business Professionals of America; and
WHEREAS, Ranked fourth in her class, Falon Shackelford is a
National Achievement Scholar, an honor bestowed on fewer than 5,000
students out of 150,000 entrants; she has earned a full scholarship
to Howard University; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding young Texans have demonstrated
exceptional intellect, initiative, and maturity in pursuing their
goals, and they are truly well prepared to face the challenges and
opportunities that lie ahead; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby honor Alejandra Garcia, Cinthia Garcia, Claudia
Pineda, and Falon Shackelford for their academic achievements and
extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
