44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, In a season-long demonstration of teamwork and
66 determination, the baseball team from Socorro High School in El
77 Paso claimed the District 1-5A title and advanced to the regional
88 finals in the University Interscholastic League state playoffs; and
99 WHEREAS, The Bulldogs' success in 2009 continues the school's
1010 tradition of excellence on the diamond; this was the seventh
1111 consecutive year that the team was district champ, and in their
1212 march through the playoffs, they retained the bi-district, area,
1313 regional quarterfinal, and regional semifinal titles that they have
1414 held since 2006; and
1515 WHEREAS, Finishing with a record of 31 wins and just 4 losses,
1616 Socorro won the respect of its competitors and saw seven of its
1717 players receive all-district honors; Cory Falvey was the district's
1818 overall Most Valuable Player, while Aaron Olivas was defensive MVP
1919 and Tavi Amparan was offensive MVP; in addition, George Stoltz was
2020 first team designated hitter, Chuy Diaz was first team outfielder,
2121 Chris Guzman was second team pitcher, and Marcus Molina was second
2222 team outfielder; and
2323 WHEREAS, The Bulldogs also received valuable contributions
2424 from the other members of the roster: Oscar Sandate, Ivan Sigala,
2525 Josh Rodriguez, Angel Soria, Mando Muniz, Luis Yanez, Eric Herrera,
2626 Roger Favela, Jessiray Navarrette, Sergio Mendoza, Bobby Mares, and
2727 Rene Rodriguez; and
2828 WHEREAS, These talented athletes were guided by head coach
2929 Chris Forbes and assistant coaches Joe Alvarez, Adrian Garcia,
3030 Federico Contreras, and Herbert Reyes, whose expertise and
3131 inspiration were key to the team's triumphs; and
3232 WHEREAS, With the enthusiastic support of their many fans,
3333 the Socorro High School players and coaches combined for a
3434 memorable season, and their spirited performances on the ball field
3535 were a source of great pride to their school; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3737 Legislature hereby congratulate the 2009 Socorro High School
3838 baseball team on its outstanding accomplishments and extend to the
3939 athletes and coaching staff sincere best wishes for continued
4040 success; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4343 House of Representatives.
