H.R. No. 3144 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, In a season-long demonstration of teamwork and determination, the baseball team from Socorro High School in El Paso claimed the District 1-5A title and advanced to the regional finals in the University Interscholastic League state playoffs; and WHEREAS, The Bulldogs' success in 2009 continues the school's tradition of excellence on the diamond; this was the seventh consecutive year that the team was district champ, and in their march through the playoffs, they retained the bi-district, area, regional quarterfinal, and regional semifinal titles that they have held since 2006; and WHEREAS, Finishing with a record of 31 wins and just 4 losses, Socorro won the respect of its competitors and saw seven of its players receive all-district honors; Cory Falvey was the district's overall Most Valuable Player, while Aaron Olivas was defensive MVP and Tavi Amparan was offensive MVP; in addition, George Stoltz was first team designated hitter, Chuy Diaz was first team outfielder, Chris Guzman was second team pitcher, and Marcus Molina was second team outfielder; and WHEREAS, The Bulldogs also received valuable contributions from the other members of the roster: Oscar Sandate, Ivan Sigala, Josh Rodriguez, Angel Soria, Mando Muniz, Luis Yanez, Eric Herrera, Roger Favela, Jessiray Navarrette, Sergio Mendoza, Bobby Mares, and Rene Rodriguez; and WHEREAS, These talented athletes were guided by head coach Chris Forbes and assistant coaches Joe Alvarez, Adrian Garcia, Federico Contreras, and Herbert Reyes, whose expertise and inspiration were key to the team's triumphs; and WHEREAS, With the enthusiastic support of their many fans, the Socorro High School players and coaches combined for a memorable season, and their spirited performances on the ball field were a source of great pride to their school; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the 2009 Socorro High School baseball team on its outstanding accomplishments and extend to the athletes and coaching staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
