 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The death of Robert Mueller of Taylor on September
 6, 2008, at the age of 69, brought great sadness to his family,
 friends, and many admirers across the Lone Star State and beyond;
 and
 WHEREAS, Born in 1939, Mr. Mueller began working in his
 father's grocery store in Taylor at the age of eight; in 1949, his
 father opened Louie Mueller Barbecue, which moved to its present
 location on Second Street a decade later; and
 WHEREAS, The captain of his high school football and track
 teams, Bobby Mueller graduated in 1957 and entered Texas Christian
 University; he joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and served in Korea
 before returning to Taylor two years later to work for the family
 business; and
 WHEREAS, When his father retired in 1974, Bobby Mueller took
 over the restaurant, and during the next 30 years he turned it into
 a Texas culinary legend; often rising at four in the morning to
 prepare the day's meats and side dishes from scratch, he regularly
 worked a 90-hour week; at one point he calculated that he had spent
 more than 160,000 hours at the restaurant; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Mueller's dedication to the art of barbecue
 earned him nationwide recognition; in Texas Monthly's annual
 statewide ranking of barbecue establishments, Louie Mueller
 Barbecue placed in the top five on three different occasions;
 moreover, in 2006, the restaurant won the prestigious James Beard
 Foundation Award; and
 WHEREAS, Bobby Mueller helped build his family's business
 into an iconic landmark; though he appreciated the many accolades
 his restaurant garnered, this hardworking and humble Texan took
 even greater pleasure in the approval he received from thousands of
 customers over the years; he also found immense pleasure in
 spending time with his loved ones, especially his four
 grandchildren, and he has left behind a legacy to treasure for all
 those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Mueller and
 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
 Patricia; to his children, Wayne, John, and LeAnn; to his
 grandchildren, Robert, Johnson, Andrew, and Erica; and to his other
 relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bobby
 Mueller.
