| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Many proud residents of Little Elm are visiting the |

| 6 | 6 | | State Capitol on March 2, 2009, to celebrate the distinctive |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | attributes and achievements of their community; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1844 on the banks of Little Elm |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Creek, the town of Little Elm was part of the Peters Colony during |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the Republic of Texas; it was not incorporated until 1966, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | retained its rural character until the late 1990s, when road |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | development made it more accessible to both Denton and Dallas; its |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | charms have since been discovered by many professionals working in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the high tech corridor of far North Texas; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The population of Little Elm nearly quintupled |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | between 2000 and 2007, making it one of the fastest-growing towns in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the United States; it is now home to approximately 24,000, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | including many young, well-educated residents attracted by its |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | peaceful atmosphere and the beauty of its 66 miles of shoreline |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | along Lewisville Lake; the town also boasts a thriving economy and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | excellent public schools; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In the summer of 2009, the Lewisville Lake Toll |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Bridge is scheduled to open, providing an east-west corridor that |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | will further expedite transportation in this increasingly lively |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | area; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Scenic Little Elm is no longer a North Texas secret, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | but its residents are committed to maintaining the small-town |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | appeal and water vistas that make their community unique; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 2, 2009, as Little Elm Day at the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | State Capitol and extend to its visiting delegation sincere best |
