 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Many proud residents of Little Elm are visiting the
 State Capitol on March 2, 2009, to celebrate the distinctive
 attributes and achievements of their community; and
 WHEREAS, Established in 1844 on the banks of Little Elm
 Creek, the town of Little Elm was part of the Peters Colony during
 the Republic of Texas; it was not incorporated until 1966, and
 retained its rural character until the late 1990s, when road
 development made it more accessible to both Denton and Dallas; its
 charms have since been discovered by many professionals working in
 the high tech corridor of far North Texas; and
 WHEREAS, The population of Little Elm nearly quintupled
 between 2000 and 2007, making it one of the fastest-growing towns in
 the United States; it is now home to approximately 24,000,
 including many young, well-educated residents attracted by its
 peaceful atmosphere and the beauty of its 66 miles of shoreline
 along Lewisville Lake; the town also boasts a thriving economy and
 excellent public schools; and
 WHEREAS, In the summer of 2009, the Lewisville Lake Toll
 Bridge is scheduled to open, providing an east-west corridor that
 will further expedite transportation in this increasingly lively
 area; and
 WHEREAS, Scenic Little Elm is no longer a North Texas secret,
 but its residents are committed to maintaining the small-town
 appeal and water vistas that make their community unique; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize March 2, 2009, as Little Elm Day at the
 State Capitol and extend to its visiting delegation sincere best
 wishes for a memorable and meaningful visit to Austin.
