44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Residents of Brewster County lost a beloved neighbor
66 and friend with the passing of Mary Linn Brown Reider on December
77 21, 2008, at the age of 84; and
88 WHEREAS, Born to George Augustus Brown and Augusta Linn Brown
99 on March 10, 1924, in Alpine, Mary Linn Brown grew up on the
1010 Haley-Brown Ranch at the foot of Cathedral Mountain, south of town;
1111 affectionately known as "Mimze" to her family and friends, she
1212 enjoyed the companionship of two brothers, John and George, and
1313 three sisters, Margaret, Catherine, and Josephine; and
1414 WHEREAS, A gifted dancer, she moved to New York City and
1515 performed professionally with the New York City Ballet, working
1616 with famed choreographer George Balanchine and the company's first
1717 prima ballerina, Maria Tallchief; she also had the opportunity to
1818 appear in several films; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mrs. Reider and her husband, the actor Edward
2020 "Eddie" Reider, were married in 1949; she lived in Los Angeles for a
2121 number of years before returning to the family ranch in 1968; and
2222 WHEREAS, Mary Linn Reider lived a rewarding life that was
2323 rich in family, friends, and meaningful artistic accomplishments,
2424 and she will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of her
2525 loved ones; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2727 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Linn Brown Reider
2828 and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
2929 daughter and son, Tracey and John Reider; to her grandchildren,
3030 Yesenia Linn and Jeremy Bogart Reider, Kent Edward Becker, and Paul
3131 Becker IV; to her siblings, Margaret Anne DeBarbrie and John Andrew
3232 Brown; to her niece and nephews, Mary Anne DeBarbrie, Thomas
3333 Mathews, and Kelli and Jim Brown; to her great-nephews, Charles
3434 Mathews and Connor Brown; and to her other relatives and friends;
3535 and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3737 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
3838 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Linn
3939 Reider.
