5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Brewster County lost a beloved neighbor |

6 | 6 | | and friend with the passing of Mary Linn Brown Reider on December |

7 | 7 | | 21, 2008, at the age of 84; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born to George Augustus Brown and Augusta Linn Brown |
---|
9 | 9 | | on March 10, 1924, in Alpine, Mary Linn Brown grew up on the |
---|
10 | 10 | | Haley-Brown Ranch at the foot of Cathedral Mountain, south of town; |
---|
11 | 11 | | affectionately known as "Mimze" to her family and friends, she |
---|
12 | 12 | | enjoyed the companionship of two brothers, John and George, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | three sisters, Margaret, Catherine, and Josephine; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A gifted dancer, she moved to New York City and |
---|
15 | 15 | | performed professionally with the New York City Ballet, working |
---|
16 | 16 | | with famed choreographer George Balanchine and the company's first |
---|
17 | 17 | | prima ballerina, Maria Tallchief; she also had the opportunity to |
---|
18 | 18 | | appear in several films; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Reider and her husband, the actor Edward |
---|
20 | 20 | | "Eddie" Reider, were married in 1949; she lived in Los Angeles for a |
---|
21 | 21 | | number of years before returning to the family ranch in 1968; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mary Linn Reider lived a rewarding life that was |
---|
23 | 23 | | rich in family, friends, and meaningful artistic accomplishments, |
---|
24 | 24 | | and she will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of her |
---|
25 | 25 | | loved ones; now, therefore, be it |
---|
26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Linn Brown Reider |
---|
28 | 28 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
---|
29 | 29 | | daughter and son, Tracey and John Reider; to her grandchildren, |

30 | 30 | | Yesenia Linn and Jeremy Bogart Reider, Kent Edward Becker, and Paul |

31 | 31 | | Becker IV; to her siblings, Margaret Anne DeBarbrie and John Andrew |
