| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and shared experiences, and Encarnacion and Emma Guerra of San |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Antonio celebrated this joyous occasion on January 10, 2009; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, "Carny" Guerra and the former Emma Flores first met |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in Saginaw, Michigan, where they were both members of the Central |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Junior High School band; when Mr. Guerra's family moved to Texas, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the young couple kept in touch through letters, and in 1959, they |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | exchanged wedding vows at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Saginaw; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After they were married, Mr. Guerra worked for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | General Motors for a decade, while Mrs. Guerra stayed at home to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | raise their five daughters, Cynthia, Sylvia, Judith, Belinda, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Elaine; the family later moved to Laredo, where they owned and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | operated a local landmark, the Casa Blanca Ballroom; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. and Mrs. Guerra expanded into radio, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | purchasing a number of Mexican stations; they retired to San |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Antonio in 1995 and today enjoy spending time with their 17 |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | grandchildren and great-grandson, relaxing at home with their |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | teacup Chihuahuas, Pixie and Princess, and traveling the world; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, For five decades, Carny and Emma Guerra have |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | nurtured a supportive relationship built on mutual devotion and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | respect, and their enduring union remains an inspiration to all |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | those who have shared in its joy; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Carny and Emma Guerra on the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them |

| 31 | 31 | | sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
