H.R. No. 620 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love and shared experiences, and Encarnacion and Emma Guerra of San Antonio celebrated this joyous occasion on January 10, 2009; and WHEREAS, "Carny" Guerra and the former Emma Flores first met in Saginaw, Michigan, where they were both members of the Central Junior High School band; when Mr. Guerra's family moved to Texas, the young couple kept in touch through letters, and in 1959, they exchanged wedding vows at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Saginaw; and WHEREAS, After they were married, Mr. Guerra worked for General Motors for a decade, while Mrs. Guerra stayed at home to raise their five daughters, Cynthia, Sylvia, Judith, Belinda, and Elaine; the family later moved to Laredo, where they owned and operated a local landmark, the Casa Blanca Ballroom; and WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. and Mrs. Guerra expanded into radio, purchasing a number of Mexican stations; they retired to San Antonio in 1995 and today enjoy spending time with their 17 grandchildren and great-grandson, relaxing at home with their teacup Chihuahuas, Pixie and Princess, and traveling the world; and WHEREAS, For five decades, Carny and Emma Guerra have nurtured a supportive relationship built on mutual devotion and respect, and their enduring union remains an inspiration to all those who have shared in its joy; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Carny and Emma Guerra on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Guerra as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
