H.R. No. 628
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Russell Cain of Port Lavaca has been elected the
2008-2009 district governor of South Texas District 5930 of Rotary
International; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cain has been a leading member of the Port Lavaca
Rotary Club since 1979, with perfect attendance for 14 of those
years; he has served as club president and assistant district
governor and, for two decades, as chair of the Rotary Golf
Tournament; he is a life member of the Paul Harris Society, and in
2000, he received the District 5930 Award for Meritorious Service;
and
WHEREAS, The owner of Russell Cain Real Estate, Mr. Cain is
also a leader in his profession, having served several terms as
president of the Calhoun County Board of Realtors; a member of the
National Association of Realtors and the Texas Association of
Realtors, he has been named Realtor of the Year, and his company won
recognition in 2006 as the top Coldwell Banker agency in the nation
in its category; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cain has long been an active community
volunteer, serving as a director of Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, the
Gulf Bend MHMR Center, the Calhoun County Economic Development
Corporation, the Calhoun County Work Activity Center, and the local
chapter of the American Cancer Society; in addition, he has served
as president of Hatch Bend Country Club and as chair of the Memorial
Medical Center Foundation; and
WHEREAS, A director of Port Lavaca Main Street, Inc., and its
president for 17 years, Mr. Cain demonstrated his deep commitment
to the preservation of the city's heritage when he purchased the
historic Main Street Theatre and donated it to the Main Street
Committee in 1992; and
WHEREAS, For all that he has done in behalf of his community,
Mr. Cain has been named Man of the Year by the local chamber of
commerce and Citizen of the Year by the Veterans of Foreign Wars;
moreover, he has received the chamber's Community Service Award and
a 20th Century Most Influential Citizen Award 2000 for Calhoun
County; and
WHEREAS, The selfless efforts of community leaders help
improve the lives of all Texans, and the citizens of Calhoun County
are fortunate indeed to count Russell Cain among their fellow
residents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Russell Cain on his election as
district governor of South Texas District 5930 of Rotary
International and extend to him sincere best wishes for a
successful tenure; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Cain as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
