44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Demonstrating great skill and dedication, the
66 six-man football team from Greenville Christian School captured the
77 2008 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Division 1
88 state six-man football championship on December 6, 2008; and
99 WHEREAS, The Greenville Eagles took the title in a thrilling
1010 contest with the team from Heritage Christian Academy in Rockwall;
1111 the two teams stood even at 48-48 going into the fourth quarter at
1212 Moody ISD Stadium, but Greenville stayed tough on both sides of the
1313 ball to leave the field victorious by a 72-48 margin, clinching its
1414 second state title in as many years; and
1515 WHEREAS, The championship triumph capped a spectacular year
1616 for Greenville, in which the Eagles completed the first undefeated
1717 season in school history, winning 12 games and dispatching several
1818 opponents by seven touchdowns or more; several Eagles players
1919 received all-state honors for their exceptional play, including
2020 Brandon Fauley, Josh Rook, Tanner Barnes, Blake Caspari, Jake
2121 Schumann, Jordan Henderson, and Andrew Wombaker; and
2222 WHEREAS, Head coach Larry Uland and his assistants David
2323 Wombaker, Todd Barnes, Rene Aja, Kelly Garrett, Jim Johnson, and
2424 Dan Uland provided inspiration and guidance to the Greenville
2525 athletes throughout the season, encouraging them at every step to
2626 apply and improve their skills; moreover, Larry Uland's excellent
2727 record earned him the 2008 TAPPS Division 1 Coach of the Year honor;
2828 and
2929 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
3030 culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
3131 commitment to excellence, and the Greenville Eagles football team
3232 will treasure the memory of this accomplishment for many years to
3333 come; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3535 Legislature hereby congratulate the Greenville Christian School
3636 Eagles on winning their second consecutive TAPPS Division 1 state
3737 six-man football championship and extend to the players, coaches,
3838 and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
3939 further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4242 House of Representatives.
