| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Mesquite Independent School District Education |

| 6 | 6 | | Foundation is holding its third annual fund-raising gala on March |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established by the MISD Board of Trustees in 2004, |

| 9 | 9 | | the Mesquite ISD Education Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | studies of area young people; the group solicits donations from |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | alumni, citizens, businesses, and other organizations in an effort |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to provide enrichment opportunities for both teachers and students; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The foundation seeks to create a permanent endowment |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to supplement public education dollars; it received its first |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | donation in December 2004, and by June 2007, it had raised more than |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | $800,000 and awarded $400,000 in initiatives and grants; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Headlined by Three Dog Night, the Lone Star Legacy |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | benefit is expected to draw nearly 10,000 attendees in support of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the foundation and its worthwhile cause; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The Mesquite ISD Education Foundation is to be |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | commended for fostering an improved educational environment, one |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | that will make a positive difference in students' lives for years to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby honor the Mesquite Independent School District |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Education Foundation on the occasion of its third annual |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | fund-raising gala and extend sincere best wishes to all those |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | involved with the organization for continued success with their |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | important work; and, be it further |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
