44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Lee, judge of the 63rd State
66 District Court, retired on December 31, 2008, after three decades
77 of exemplary service to his fellow citizens; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Freer, Tom Lee graduated from Texas A&M
99 University and, following two years of service in the U.S. Army,
1010 earned his law degree at St. Mary's University in San Antonio; he
1111 began his legal career in 1973 with the Del Rio firm of Lowrey,
1212 Foster and Hodge; and
1313 WHEREAS, Five years later, this esteemed Texan was appointed
1414 district attorney of the 63rd State Judicial District by Governor
1515 Dolph Briscoe, and he served with distinction in that position
1616 through 2000 when he was elected district judge; and
1717 WHEREAS, Judge Lee has been active in a number of
1818 professional organizations, serving as president of the Val Verde
1919 County Bar Association, chair of District 15c of the State Bar
2020 Grievance Committee, and member of the Border District Bar
2121 Association; and
2222 WHEREAS, Also a leader in his community, he has shared his
2323 time with the Val Verde County Child Welfare Board, Quad Counties
2424 Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and St. James Episcopal Church;
2525 and
2626 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Judge Lee and his wife,
2727 Carol, are the proud parents of two children, Allyson and Stephen,
2828 and have three grandchildren, Bradley, Oliver, and Elliot; he has
2929 dedicated much time to Boy Scouts of America and is a member of the
3030 National Eagle Scout Association, a recipient of the Silver Beaver
3131 Award, and a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow; in his free
3232 time, he enjoys playing the banjo with the Borderline Singers, a
3333 bluegrass band that entertains at civic events and charity
3434 fund-raisers; and
3535 WHEREAS, Judge Lee's tenure as a jurist has been
3636 characterized by diligence, integrity, and a passion for the law,
3737 and it is indeed appropriate to join with the residents of Val Verde
3838 and Terrell Counties to honor this highly respected member of the
3939 judiciary for his outstanding public service; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4141 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Thomas Lee on his
4242 retirement as judge of the 63rd State District Court, commend him on
4343 his exceptional career, and extend to him sincere best wishes for an
4444 enjoyable retirement; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for Judge Lee as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4747 House of Representatives.
