| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Lee, judge of the 63rd State |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | District Court, retired on December 31, 2008, after three decades |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of exemplary service to his fellow citizens; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Freer, Tom Lee graduated from Texas A&M |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | University and, following two years of service in the U.S. Army, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | earned his law degree at St. Mary's University in San Antonio; he |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | began his legal career in 1973 with the Del Rio firm of Lowrey, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Foster and Hodge; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Five years later, this esteemed Texan was appointed |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | district attorney of the 63rd State Judicial District by Governor |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Dolph Briscoe, and he served with distinction in that position |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | through 2000 when he was elected district judge; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Judge Lee has been active in a number of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | professional organizations, serving as president of the Val Verde |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | County Bar Association, chair of District 15c of the State Bar |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Grievance Committee, and member of the Border District Bar |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Association; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Also a leader in his community, he has shared his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | time with the Val Verde County Child Welfare Board, Quad Counties |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and St. James Episcopal Church; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Judge Lee and his wife, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Carol, are the proud parents of two children, Allyson and Stephen, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and have three grandchildren, Bradley, Oliver, and Elliot; he has |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | dedicated much time to Boy Scouts of America and is a member of the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | National Eagle Scout Association, a recipient of the Silver Beaver |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Award, and a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow; in his free |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | time, he enjoys playing the banjo with the Borderline Singers, a |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | bluegrass band that entertains at civic events and charity |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | fund-raisers; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Judge Lee's tenure as a jurist has been |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | characterized by diligence, integrity, and a passion for the law, |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | and it is indeed appropriate to join with the residents of Val Verde |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | and Terrell Counties to honor this highly respected member of the |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | judiciary for his outstanding public service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Thomas Lee on his |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | retirement as judge of the 63rd State District Court, commend him on |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | his exceptional career, and extend to him sincere best wishes for an |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | enjoyable retirement; and, be it further |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
