| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, First Baptist Church of Academy is celebrating its |

| 6 | 6 | | 50th anniversary on March 8, 2009, and the event promises to be a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | memorable day filled with prayer, reflection, and celebration; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Since it opened its doors in 1959, First Baptist has |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | greatly benefited from the dedication of its leaders, including |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Pastor Brent Boatwright, who currently provides caring guidance to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the membership; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Although the church building was destroyed by fire |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in 1990, the congregation of First Baptist replaced the structure |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | with a determination and optimism that touched others throughout |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the community; a recently published book detailing the first |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | half-century of First Baptist includes photographs of the fire and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the process of rebuilding; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Today, the church offers opportunities for |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | spiritual enrichment to the wider community through various |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | outreach programs; among its efforts, the church sponsors |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | ministries for children, singles, and seniors, as well as regular |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | mission trips; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, For half a century, First Baptist Church has |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | remained a source of strength, comfort, and inspiration for Central |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Texans, and it is fitting to recognize its congregants, past and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | present, on the occasion of this notable milestone; now, therefore, |
|---|

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of First |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Baptist Church of Academy and extend to Pastor Brent Boatwright and |

| 31 | 31 | | all members of this venerable Baptist church sincere best wishes |

| 32 | 32 | | for a meaningful celebration; and, be it further |
