44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, March 2, 2009, commemorated the 105th anniversary of
66 the birth of Dr. Seuss, and the students of Sunrise McMillan
77 Elementary School in Fort Worth celebrated this occasion by taking
88 part in Read Across America Day; and
99 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Education Association,
1010 this annual event is designed to encourage children of all ages to
1111 read; by using the works of Dr. Seuss as a focal point, it sends a
1212 clear message to the children that reading is not only fun but vital
1313 to their success in school; and
1414 WHEREAS, Read Across America Day features the participation
1515 of millions of children, parents, teachers, community leaders, and
1616 noted celebrities from across the land, and is supported by some 40
1717 national organizations and associations; and
1818 WHEREAS, Many students of Sunrise McMillan took part in this
1919 celebration of the written word, which is not only a fitting tribute
2020 to the beloved Dr. Seuss, but also an excellent opportunity to
2121 instill a passion for reading in these future leaders of the Lone
2222 Star State; now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2424 Legislature hereby commemorate the Read Across America celebration
2525 of Dr. Seuss's 105th birthday at Sunrise McMillan Elementary School
2626 and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a
2727 memorable event; and, be it further
2828 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2929 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3030 House of Representatives.
