| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, March 2, 2009, commemorated the 105th anniversary of |

| 6 | 6 | | the birth of Dr. Seuss, and the students of Sunrise McMillan |

| 7 | 7 | | Elementary School in Fort Worth celebrated this occasion by taking |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | part in Read Across America Day; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Education Association, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | this annual event is designed to encourage children of all ages to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | read; by using the works of Dr. Seuss as a focal point, it sends a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | clear message to the children that reading is not only fun but vital |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | to their success in school; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Read Across America Day features the participation |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of millions of children, parents, teachers, community leaders, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | noted celebrities from across the land, and is supported by some 40 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | national organizations and associations; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Many students of Sunrise McMillan took part in this |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | celebration of the written word, which is not only a fitting tribute |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to the beloved Dr. Seuss, but also an excellent opportunity to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | instill a passion for reading in these future leaders of the Lone |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the Read Across America celebration |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Dr. Seuss's 105th birthday at Sunrise McMillan Elementary School |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a |

| 27 | 27 | | memorable event; and, be it further |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
