H.R. No. 766 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, March 2, 2009, commemorated the 105th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Seuss, and the students of Sunrise McMillan Elementary School in Fort Worth celebrated this occasion by taking part in Read Across America Day; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Education Association, this annual event is designed to encourage children of all ages to read; by using the works of Dr. Seuss as a focal point, it sends a clear message to the children that reading is not only fun but vital to their success in school; and WHEREAS, Read Across America Day features the participation of millions of children, parents, teachers, community leaders, and noted celebrities from across the land, and is supported by some 40 national organizations and associations; and WHEREAS, Many students of Sunrise McMillan took part in this celebration of the written word, which is not only a fitting tribute to the beloved Dr. Seuss, but also an excellent opportunity to instill a passion for reading in these future leaders of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the Read Across America celebration of Dr. Seuss's 105th birthday at Sunrise McMillan Elementary School and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a memorable event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
